About Woke Dancer

For the dancers and writers, Woke Dancer is an artistic lifestyle blog where dance and literature meet and re-define artistic expression, lifestyle, and storytelling. Our hope is to inspire its readers to leave this site wanting to create their best work. From Debbie Allen to Ntozake Shange, dance writers and writing dancers have not gotten a spotlight on the unique artistry required for the combination of these forms, so Woke Dancer was born.

Woke Dancer was founded by Zakiya Moore, a professional writer who used to be a dancer herself. Woke Dancer is an artistic lifestyle blog detailing helpful tips and history for writing and dancing as one form, information about the choreographic process, and cultural essays focused on underrepresented creatives and how their artistry can inform us. This site’s goals include: enhancing your creative output, provide you with tools for networking with other artists, and getting inspired directly from the site through curation of art, dance, literature, and film.

Categories include: dance culture, pulp fiction and literature, and artistic lifestyle.

Woke isn’t knowing more, but wanting to know more. So here’s to exploring the unsaid and unseen things that artists’ live with and create.

Welcome to Woke Dancer.
